Comparisons of image-matching software when identifying pool frog (Pelophylax lessonae) individuals from a reintroduced population

چکیده

Photographic identification of individual animals is a non-invasive and cost-effective method that can provide demographic information on wild populations. This study aims to compare two photo-matching algorithms (Wild- ID I3S-Spot) using reintroduced population pool frogs (Pelophylax lessonae) in the UK as case study. We compared following parameters 1) sex age, 2) image quality, 3) collection size 4) processing time evaluate successful match rates. There were no significant differences rates found between age groups. Wild-ID was more sensitive quality than I3S-Spot. negative relationship for I3S-Spot, however, such Wild-ID. The findings our be used by conservation practitioners reduce workload improve accuracy during monitoring activities.

Frog calls echo microsatellite phylogeography in the European pool frog (Rana lessonae)

Vocalization is an important component of male reproductive behaviour in a wide range of animal taxa. In some species there is considerable intraspeci®c variation of call characters partitioned on a regional basis. Such `regional accents' could originate from cultural or genetic evolution and have been widely studied in birds. Amphibians, however, have limited learning abilities, and where regi...

Distribution and Extinction Patterns within a Northern Metapopulation of the Pool Frog, Rana Lessonae'

The distribution and extinction patterns within a northern metapopulation of the pool frog (Rana lessonae) were analyzed with reference to metapopulation theory. Occupied ponds were permanent and differed from unoccupied ones in terms of higher water temperature during May-June and a closer proximity to neighboring pool-frog localities. but local climate was not spatially autocorrelated. Two ty...

Determination of biogeographical range: an application of molecular phylogeography to the European pool frog Rana lessonae.

Understanding how species are constrained within their biogeographical ranges is a central problem in evolutionary ecology. Essential prerequisites for addressing this question include accurate determinations of range borders and of the genetic structures of component populations. Human translocation of organisms to sites outside their natural range is one factor that increasingly complicates t...

A Computational Formal Model of the Invasiveness of Eastern Species in European Water Frog Populations

European water frog populations are mainly composed by two species: Pelophylax lessonae (pool frog) and Pelophylax esculentus (edible frog). These populations are called L-E complexes. Edible frogs are a hybrid form between P. lessonae and Pelophylax ridibundus (eastern lake frog) and they reproduce in a particular way, called hybridogenesis. These frog populations have been studied in the cont...

Genetic diversity in water frog hybrids (Pelophylax esculentus) varies with population structure and geographic location.

Pelophylax esculentus is a hybridogenetic frog originating from matings between P. ridibundus (RR) and P. lessonae (LL). Typically, diploid hybrids (LR) live in sympatry with one of their parental species, upon which they depend for successful reproduction. In parts of their range, however, pure hybrid populations can be found. These hybrid populations have achieved reproductive independence fr...
